Mounting | Materials: entirely gilded brass. Hilt with braid, upper part functional and ergonomic. Includes simulated continuous pommel and smooth ferrule at the bottom. Knuckle guard with ring and two S-shaped quillons. Quillon end finished with a small ball turned toward the blade. Two semicircular guides for sheath attachment. |
Blade | Curved, with fullers and inscription indicating designation. Single-edged, except for the blade’s ricasso which has two edges. |
Scabbard | Leather-covered with gilded throat and chape. |
Inscription | On the hilt: Approved by H.M. in 1822; on the spine: National Factory of Toledo Year 1822; on the fuller: Approved by H.M. in 1822 for Grenadier and Hunter Sergeants. |
Additional Description | This saber was approved in 1822 by Royal Order of Fernando VII. In 1823, the King abolished this order along with all decrees and laws. It differs from the sergeant’s saber in the gilding, larger size, and finishing details. |
