Name Sword of Cazoletas and Bridges “Alonso de Sahagún the Old”
Period 16th century
Guard Damasked iron with gold and silver decoration featuring vines and rosettes. Oval pommel with a prominent knob. Tapered, wired grip with two tiny ferrules. Long spatula-shaped quillons, horizontal and slightly turned in the opposite direction. Horizontal and vertical bridges in the shape of sidepieces.
Blade Straight, with a wide channel where the inscription “SAHAGÚN-THE OLD” stands out. Three sections and two edges.

Description Alonso de Sahagún, “the Old”, was a Toledo swordsmith of the 16th century, renowned for his quality. Nicknamed to distinguish him from his son “the Young”.
