Name Sword of Shells
Period 17th Century
Guard Made of iron, formed by two asymmetrical shells decorated to create a shallow bowl. An extensive cross with long straight quillons, undecorated, ending in buttons. Short grip, well wired and secured by two smooth ferrules. Pommel shaped like a mushroom, decorated with oblique bands and a knob. Handguard with an interesting central arrangement of disks or plates, also finished in a button and not attached to the pommel.
Blade Straight, with a central hollow in the first fourth, featuring a rare inscription. The rest in lenticular section. Double-edged throughout.

Description In Spain, great armories are shown to have forged swords not only in Toledo, Valencia, Barcelona, or Seville but also in Mallorca, as evidenced by this specimen, indicated by the inscription on the blade: “EN MALLORCA ME FECIT”.
