Period Infantry Officer circa 1811
Guard Gold-plated brass with Anglo-Saxon design, handguard ring with counter-curve, pommel in helmet style, grip in checkered ebony and two ferrules. Base plate with cutout and flambeau.
Blade Straight and wide, with a flat spine for two-thirds and a channel adjacent, cutting edge on the outside and three flat surfaces on the rest.
Scabbard Supposed to be made of leather, with brass finial and mouthpiece.
Inscription Royal Factory of Cádiz year 1811
Description Manufactured many weapons in Cádiz during the War of Independence, the flambeau may indicate the intended destination for infantry grenadiers.
