Guard | “Half-pierced” cup-hilt version, complete, asymmetrical and with a closed and compact appearance. Elongated knuckle bow reaching the ferrule, finished in decreasing steps, surrounding the rivet of the tang’s tail. Turned wooden grip, covered with sandpaper and wrapped with wire. |
Blade | Straight, with three facets double-edged from the ricasso to the tip. |
Scabbard | Strong and robust, with two bands and rings. |

Description | These weapons were named “Saber model 1840 for Light Cavalry” (curved blade) and “Mounted Sword model 1840 for Line Cavalry” (straight blade). The unification of the Cavalry was formalized by the Royal Decree of August 3, 1841. |
