Hilt | Of a very unique design, made of brass, with a flattened and pierced base plate that extends inward into a short cylindrical quillon and outward through a ring that fits into the grip-pommel piece, both cast as a single block. Noteworthy is the domed pommel, the highlighted border ring, and the grip with pronounced flutes between which a small shield under a royal crown with the emblem of the Veteran Civil Guard is arranged. |
Blade | With a flat spine on the inside, a long fuller, and a continuous cutting edge on the outside. The blade is double-edged with two bevels and a central ridge, almost “Prussian style” but smaller in size. |

Organization | By Royal Order of April 6, 1859, the Urban Guard of Madrid was renamed “VETERAN CIVIL GUARD,” becoming part of the Civil Guard Corps with a single battalion of 600 men. The battalion was the recipient of this special saber. |
