Name Official “Shooter’s Prize” Sword Model 1880
Hilt Brushed steel with Prussian type. Full and closed basket with tongue guard directed toward the blade. Rounded pommel with two side plates holding a pin that passes through the grip and tang. Water-etched guard and pommel decorated with the shield of Spain under a royal crown and the emblem of SHOOTERS’ BADGES, with floral patterns around the perimeter. Wooden grip covered with leather and braided wire.
Blade Curved, with a fuller, with the edge running along the exterior and a rounded spine in the first two-thirds, narrowing to a fine edge inwardly in the last third. Features a gentle concave curve from the fuller to the hump.
Scabbard Made of iron, with two mounts and rings. Fittings with flared tips.
Inscriptions Emblem of “Shooter’s Badge”. The regulation Prussian-style officer’s sword for cavalry, model 1878. Both engraved on the blade and on the guard’s basket, the shield, SHOOTERS’ BADGES. Official prize sword awarded at the central contest according to Royal Order of September 21, 1880. The prize sword was exclusively for officers. Enlisted personnel received first or second class shooter badges.
