Hilt Made of gilded brass, completely solid, with a very flattened spherical pommel and knob. Slightly ergonomic grip with ridges for better hand hold.
Blade Straight, wide, with a generous ricasso and double edges on two facets along the rest.
Scabbard Black leather, with a gilt brass throat and chape. Smooth oval button for suspension on the belt.
Inscription Year 1834
Description This is a robust weapon that at the time seemed very suitable for the artillery purpose to which it was dedicated. Its design, derived from French machetes of the same era, suggests that it was still unclear what type of weapon to provide to the artillery troops.
