Period circa 1848
Guard completely made of white metal. Pierced cup parallel with the decorations of the ring, mythological head on the pommel, fusiform grip with horizontal braids, dolphin’s head quillon, symbolism of the National Militia on the handguard.
Blade straight, with a ricasso, edges on each side and three flat areas along its length.

Scabbard made of black leather with brass fittings and tip. Bouquet on the suspension button.

Description The National Militia did not have official white weapons, it used those of the army, inserting its mottos or emblems. The guard is similar to the 1861 model for Engineering officers or the 1869 model for Marine Infantry, with a civic crown and the initials of MNV.
