Hilt | Iron, Prussian style. Sturdy, closed, rounded guard with a turned back quillon in a suitable reverse curve. Running quillon with two ears halfway along, allowing a pin to be placed through the grip and tang. This quillon fits into the ferrule. Wooden grip covered with sharkskin and strong simple alpaca wire with about fifteen lightly marked wires. Internal screw allows attachment of a leather ring for the index finger. |
Blade | Slightly curved, with a ricasso, flat back to the inner blade and wide edge on the outside up to the tip. Broad, shallow fullers on both sides up to the blade’s shoulder resulting in an “eel back” profile, that is, a central ridge and two flat surfaces. |
Scabbard | Iron, one clasp with two rings close together of different sizes, throat and chape. |
Inscription | FCA de Toledo 1876 (on the back). Royal Order of July 20, 1888: “That the second clasp be removed and the double ring placed on the first clasp on all cavalry saber scabbards of the different models in use.” |
