Name Ceñir Sword
Period Circa 1852
Guard Made of engraved and gilded brass, very elegant; consists of a pierced cup, a knuckle guard, and a quillon ended with a dog’s head. The front of the guard features a mask resembling a mythological god, and on the front of the cup, the coat of arms of Spain surrounded by the Golden Fleece. Spherical pommel with a button. Grip made of ebony with spiral fluting and metal twisted wire.
Blade Straight, with a moustache and in the rest, three tables with two edges.
Scabbard Made of leather, with a highly decorated brass gilded throat like the chape. Coat of arms of Spain on the suspension button.
Inscription ARTA TOLEDO 1852
Description All those swords without a specific purpose, used by governors, ambassadors, consuls, civil administration, etc., and also for other bodies or orders that do not possess a regulated sword are referred to as “diplomatic or whimsical swords”.
