Mounting | Gilded brass, guard ring and three quillons with small spheres, short knuckle bow with chiseled circular relief, ebony grip with wire-wrapped copper wire, ferrule at the base, flaming grenade between the guard ring and quillons. |
Blade | Straight, with barely any ricasso, edge continuous on the outside, square back with groove on the inside for the first two thirds, last third with three fullers and edge up to the tip. |
Scabbard | Iron, with two bands and corresponding rings, reduced chape. |
Inscription | Fábrica de Ybarzabal. En Eybar Año de 1824 (on the scabbard). |
Historical Description | During the reign of Fernando VII, the King’s Personal Guards included two squadrons of highly prestigious Horseback Grenadiers, which in 1823 changed their name to Royal Guard. |
