Era Circa 1891
Guard Made of alpaca, consisting of a cross of curved quillons turned in opposite directions and a pommel simulating an eagle’s head, with the mouth hole holding the knuckle bow. Handle with two squared resinous scales, secured by two cross pins and occasionally three.
Blade Straight, flat, with a barely perceptible increase in width towards the tip, where the edge breaks diagonally forming a point in line with the spine.
Scabbard Natural-colored leather, with alpaca throat and chape.
Inscription MACHETE REGLAMENTARIO 877 C LA CATALANA- LA HABANA (Distributor’s mark)
Description Machete whose design was one of the most used by our overseas troops, although it never became official as no documentary evidence has yet been found to confirm this.
