Name | Infantry Wear Machete model 1843 |
Mounting | Made of two solid brass blocks, with a grip imitating lanceolate leaves, pommel shaped as a lion’s head, crossguard with straight quillons ending in fluted domes. The diamond-shaped central escutcheon could bear the regimental number. |
Blade | Wide, with a large mustache guard, rounded back with an inner false edge and outer cutting edge. Its design includes a gentle curve, widening towards the blade’s belly, very useful for the soldier who required some weight towards the tip. |
Scabbard | Leather, with gilded brass throat and chape. |
Inscription | FABCA DE TOLEDO 1875 |
Additional Description | The 1843 regulation states it should carry the regimental number on the central escutcheon, but in many cases, machetes are found without their corresponding number due to possible economic and distribution reasons. |
