Hilt | Pleasant lion-head pommel with a very prominent beard, well-decorated ring, pierced guard with three quillons on the front, circular knuckle guard with engraved flower, Military Medical emblem in gold with Maltese Cross in silver-colored metal below a royal crown, checkered and ivory-like grips held by golden-headed screw pins. |
Blade | Straight, with ricasso, square spine on the inside, cutting edge on the outside, two fullers running to the blade’s tang. |
Scabbard | Nickel-plated iron. Mouthpiece, band, and chape in brass with ring. |
Inscription | FABRICA DE TOLEDO. This model 1886 sable with curved blade was changed to a straight blade during the reign of Alfonso XIII, as happened with the other Arms and Corps. Used during the Second Republic and even into the 1940s. It disappeared with the 1943 uniform regulation. |
