Hilt | Materials: entirely gilded brass. Grip with rings, upper part functional and ergonomic. Includes simulated continuous pommel and smooth ferrule at the bottom. Handguard with loop and two S-shaped quillons. Knuckle bow ending in a small ball turned towards the blade. Two semicircular guides for scabbard attachment. |
Blade | Curved, with fullers and destination inscription. Single-edged, except for the ricasso which is double-edged. |
Scabbard | Leather-covered with gilded throat and chape. |
Inscription | On the grip: Approved by H.M. in 1822; on the spine: National Factory of Toledo Year 1822; on the fuller: Approved by H.M. in 1822 for Grenadier and Rifleman Sergeants. |
Additional Description | This saber was approved in 1822 by Royal Order of King Ferdinand VII. In 1823, the King abolished this order along with all decrees and laws. It differs from the sergeant’s saber in its gilding, larger size, and finishing details. |
