Name Officers’ Sword of Cavalry Engineers model 1860, 1940 variant
Hilt Made of alpaca, large size, with extensive protection consisting of piercedwork, quillons, and rosettes. Engineers emblem on the guard front, where political circumstances between 1940 and 1943 required replacing the old royal crown with the imperial crown. Puerto Seguro type grip, meaning wooden squared grips with two pins and a pommel with a special top screw.
Blade Puerto Seguro type, straight with a flat spine on the interior and cutting edge on the exterior. Flat fullers extending from the ricasso to the tip. Groove on the last third of the spine. Tip aligned with the axis of symmetry.
Scabbard Nickel-plated iron with one mount and one ring. Lyre-type chape.

Historical Description This saber was originally made with a royal crown on its emblem, but in 1931 it was changed to a mural crown and in 1940 to an imperial crown. We can also find sabers with an imperial crown like this one, from Artillery, General Staff, Intendancy, Health Corps, etc. They remained in use until the 1943 uniform regulations. They disappeared with the unification of weapons and the use of the Army shield on all sabers.
